Hello!
I will be using this blog as an information tool. To tell of real situations that I have encountered while working as a Massage Therapist. You will be surprised at all the things massage therapists can do. Happy reading!

I took a course at the end of June to teach me all about the sciatic (or as some clients like to call it "phychotic") nerve. I learned ways to access and treat this nerve which can be responsible for tingling/numbness/falling asleep type problems going from the tailbone region all the way down to the toes. Nerves to me are like extension cords, with an outer layer and many wires running within it. When a nerve is irritated it can become inflamed and the swelling can be gently worked out by a trained massage therapist. This is especially great for those people who have problems in the sciatic area and chiropractic and massage are not quite getting rid of the problem.

Reminder to clients that I need some personal time in order to serve you best. Emergency/after hours appointments will now be charged 35% above regular price and need to be at least 1 hour in duration.

Happy Mothers Day to all those amazing moms out there! I just got back from an amazing weekend out at Elkhorn Resort in Clear Lake (girls annual getaway). I had the opportunity to try a completely new type of massage called the Batu JamuĀ®. It uses hot and cold stone massage with tropical aromatherapy and a skin scrub. What an absolutely amazing experience! Look for additional options available over the next few months insprired by this learning experience!
Have a great day!

I am finding that a major part of my work is in aligning the pelvis and sacrum. The pelvis is the attachment place for a whole lot of major muscles, including the thigh muscles. When these get super tight, they can actually pull your pelvis out of alignment, causing it to rotate forward or back on one side as compared to the other. Your legs sit in your pelvis, so when the pelvis rotates, you actually end up with one leg longer than the other! This causes so many problems, you walk differently; often without even realizing it. I find what you will notice is hip pain (from stepping on one leg harder than the other), low back pain and neck pain. When the low back is out - the neck is always out.
The sacrum is your tailbone. My clients generally come in with pain along the tailbone, pain that radiates across the low back (on top of the pelvis), on one side of the low back, or general pain in the butt. Treatment is easy, and if this is your problem, you will walk out feeling like a new person.
Spring is almost here! Yay!
Take care,
Lindsay

I have been working on a client who has had major back surgery in the last year. She has been gradually gaining mobility and is so happy to be able to play with her kids again! She brings a fair amount of complications due to her back problems, however she always complained of deep pain in her chest on the left side. Doctors have been concerned, and have given her test after test including and EKG for her heart and an MRI. When I got into the area of her sternum where the ribs attach I found large, hard "bumps" that were what we call "hypertonic muscles" aka knots. A fair amount of pressure decreased these knots and therefore released the muscles from having such a tight hold on the ribs. This eased the chest pain!!

See this website for an amazing list of stretching techniques:
Remember that I can relax and lengthen your muscles during your massage and you can help them rest of the time by doing stretching!

Attended a second labor/delivery that was completely different that the first! Still deciding whether or not this is something I want to do in the future. If anyone else is interested in having my there for their birth, I would do it for the low price of $100 (remember I have to miss at least a day's worth of massage appointments) so I can get another experience under my belt and make up my mind already!
Off to Mexico on Saturday - back to work on December 7th.

I attended my first labor and delivery as a Massage Therapist. What a beautiful experience! The counter pressure I used throughout the contractions proved to be very beneficial to mom. It was also helpful to the parents as it was their first birth, to be given various positions to try and to have me there for support and to act in breathing coaching. Over all, an amazing experience in bringing a beautiful little girl into the world. Thanks to the happy couple for allowing me to be a part of their experience. I am looking forward to another birth coming up soon.

At the end of September, I took the follow-up course to the level I Pregnant Pelvis course. Level I taught me much about positioning, conditions and treatment for pregnant moms. Level II brough massage into the labour, delivery and baby bonding. What a fascinating course! There is so much I can now do for moms during the L&D process! I just need 1 more person whose birth I can attend and then I will be able to receive official certification. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact me.
